I got the fever

February 7, 2014

As I put F’s new Batman pajamas on this week, I had this realization:

Batman and Robin’s capes were really a fashion choice, weren’t they? Unlike Superman’s highly functional cape…because Superman can fly, and only in his, what would we call it, uniform? costume?, so the cape must have some sort of aerodynamic properties that were lacking in Batman’s cape because he and Robin never flew under their own steam. So, F’s batman pajamas have an optional cape that attaches with Velcro until bedtime, I guess for authenticity? or just pure fun?

Then as I put him to bed, we read a few stories and did the “Itsy-Bitsy Spider” song for a while, and I started thinking that this little tale isn’t really that itsy or bitsy or even sweet or cute. It really is about the utter futility of life, isn’t it? I mean, what are we telling our little ones? That poor, dumb spider crawls up that spout, gets rained out, waits for a break in the weather, only to get effing RAINED OUT again! Why bother, for god’s sake. Just hang OUT at the bottom of the spout, you poor, dumb bastard, til someone comes along and squishes you with a big shoe…

And then I had another much more important realization: I have cabin fever. Bad.

The cure, besides Summer, is to get out of the cabin. Which I will be doing at my NEW JOB starting the end of this month.

Stayed tuned for stories from a working (outside the home) gray-haired Manhattan mom!

Oh, and to Emily, who gave me the best compliment ever by saying she not only reads, but enjoys my blog, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU!

  1. I’ve been browsing online more than 2 hours today, yet
I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth
enough for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you did,
the web will be a lot more useful than ever before.
